ENSO Events & Activities
Ongoing:
- Volleyball at Southwest Rec sand courts weekly Times TBA when weather is warm. Email notices sent. Contact Erin Vrzal for more info.
- Spanish Lunch. We meet for weekly lunch meetings at various local Latin restaurants. Conversation is in Spanish and there are learners as well as native speakers present for a nice mix and a friendly casual learning environment. Contact Leslie Rios for more info or to sign up for an email.
- The Toastmasters talking gators club meets Tuesday night at 5:35 in room 1031 of the Entomology building. Toastmasters provides a casual and friendly environment to improve in the area of public speaking and leadership. Prepared and impromptu speeches are given at each meeting and immediate evaluation of the speech is given. For more information contact Matt Tarver.
- The Linnaean team meets to practice insect related trivia in order to compete against other schools in the Linnaean games at the ESA meetings. We just competed at the recent SEB meeting and will begin practice again starting in Fall 2007. Contact John Herbert for more information. Participating in the team is a great way to practice for qualifying exams, and to have friendly competition with fellow students.
Upcoming:
- "Dinner and a Presentation" - Every first Wednesday of the month this semester, we will be getting together to allow one or several ENSO members practice upcoming seminars, defense dissertations, ESA presentations, etc. We will also be having dinner and possibly dessert. This is a good way for grad students to get over their nerves and have their presentations improved by fellow students. If you have a seminar you are giving this semester and want some practice, contact Heidi HansPetersen to schedule it. If you just want to listen and eat, come the first Wed of the month at 5pm in Rm 1031.
